Polytechnic

The personal brain-dump of Garrett Coakley

About Polytechnic.co.uk

The Author

My name is Garrett. I’ve been working with the Internet in various roles since 1993. First it was as a system/network administrator at Coventry University, then after a friend of mine asked me to do a website for his band, I got hooked on the potential of the World Wide Web. Not just on a technical level, but a social one too

Currently I’m working for a company called gencon, based just outside of Basingstoke in the UK. I wear a couple of hats, front end development, looking at areas of usability and accessibility, standards evangelism and server administration.

I’m also part of evolt.org, a community of web developers promoting the free exchange of ideas on the internet. I’ve been a member of the evolt.org community since 1999, and in 2002 I was asked to join the administration team.

The Site

The site is built using the very excellent Drupal Framework and adheres to XHTML1.0 and CSS2 standards, laid down by the W3C. It should work in pretty much every browser out there, but will look best when used with a browser that supports these standards.

Image handling is performed by the very excellent Flickr.
