The definition of futility
The results of this search are a classic example of why DRM won't work.
As was once said...
Given enough eyes all bugs are shallow
... and when we're talking about DRM, it is most definitely a bug.
Update (2nd May): Interesting developments overnight. Turns out Digg was removing posted stories about the HD-DVD key, that of course triggered a user revolt, and now Digg has changed it's position. Heh.
I debated about adding the 'funny' tag to the original post, and in the end decided not to. Events last night have made me change my mind.
The Page Paradigm
On any given Web page, users will either...
- click something that appears to take them closer to the fulfillment of their goal,
- or click the Back button on their Web browser.
Google buys YouTube for $1.65bn
After all the speculation over the past few days it's finally happened.
The two companies will continue to operate independently, Google said as it announced the news on Monday.
Damn, there go all the “GooTube” and “Yoogle” mashup parodies then.
Update: Interesting commentary about the deal at Read/Write Web:
There is a LOT of talk about the deal, but for me it's significant as a watershed moment for the Web and online video. If Google is willing to spend $1.65B on the leading online video company, then they must believe that for both YouTube and the online video industry as a whole - there is a lot more growth to come.
The Sharpest Tip
Looks like researchers at the University of Alberta are one step closer to creating "The Subtle Knife".
Forget the phrase, "sharp as a tack." Now, thanks to new University of Alberta research the popular expression might become, "sharp as a single atom tip formed by chemically assisted spatially controlled field evaporation." Maybe it doesn't roll off the tongue as easily, but considering the researchers have created the sharpest object ever made, it would be accurate.
Hmmm, beware the Spectres.
Hat tip: Slashdot.
